10/22/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: With his handsome strong face and well groomed coat, Morgan is an eager date ready to make a new friend. His ears are expressive, changing position as I take pictures and he listens to the sounds around him, and end up ‘kissing’, just touching at the tips. Sweet, friendly and not a friend of the rain, Morgan joins me on the bench for some kisses, shakes paw (when he’s in the mood), enjoys some treats, sits when asked but reluctantly as the ground is wet – he’s too funny. Off leash on playdates Morgan solicits play with both males and females and prefers soft play as exuberant play seems to overwhelm him. Fun and playful with all, he enjoys being with people and when it was time to return to his kennel he clearly didn’t want to. With so many people in the hallway he wanted to stay out and party and who could blame him! Our handsome fellow is looking for a new person or family with whom to play and love, so he’s hoping you’ll stop by to meet him today.
10/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Unaltered, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 10/20/16 Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand, with loose body and open mouth, mouths the hand with a moderate pressure. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1/2: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand applying moderate pressure. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Summary: Morgan was overexcited during handling, mouthy (moderate), jumping up, grabbing at the leash, and was difficult to position. Morgan appears to lack impulse control; he may likely benefit best from an experienced home who can provide daily mental/physical stimulation. PLAYGROUP: Morgan engages in bouncy play with males and females. Morgan may initially require time to warm up to other dogs before becoming comfortable with engaging in play. Morgan arrived into our care as a stray, so in home behavior with dogs is not known. Based on behavior observed while in our care, the behavior department recommends slow introductions between Morgan and any resident dogs in a future home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 10/20/16 During his initial medical examination, Morgan readily allowed all handling without issue ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience Potential challenges: _X_Basic manners/Poor impulse control (It is recommended that default behaviors such as “Leave it”, “Sit/Stay”, “Down” are reinforced to substitute frustration and teach him to control his impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training is recommended.)
10/20/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Morgan engages in bouncy play with males and females. 10/20: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, Morgan initially solicits play, however becomes overwhelmed when reciprocated- he then keeps to himself in the corner. 10/21: Morgan interacts with both male and female dogs. He engages in very soft play but is easily overwhelmed and will stay near handlers when play becomes exuberant. 10/22: Morgan solicits bouncy play and will engage a bit when reciprocated. He has the end goal to mount females but responds well to correction and play. 10/23: Morgan takes a moment to warm up to play, then begins to engage in running play once comfortable.
