A volunteer writes: And the award for the best two toned nose on the planet goes to Moose- Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy! Moose is beyond adorable in his soft tan coat, his sweet, soft eyes, easy wagging tail and gentle manners. He’s already won the hearts of the behavior team and every volunteer with whom he’s spent time. He’s being fed an extra meal
daily to help him gain some weight, but he still takes treats gently like the well mannered pup he is. His leash manners are excellent, he seems to be housetrained, he’s alert and curious and loves to snuggle giving the softest, sweetest kisses ever. And that nose? Love that nose and can’t stop kissing it! Moose has been good with other dogs in group, greeting politely, is tolerant and will offer correction if needed. He’s such a sweet boy, named Moose with ‘tongue in cheek’ as there is nothing mooselike about this little guy. He’s awesome, you’ll love him as did our behavior assessors who feel he’ll do well in a home with average dog experience. Come meet him today
BEHAVIOR:
Moose came into the care center as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He has been social and easy to handle since intake. He walked nicely on leash during his relief walk, and allowed all handling items with a soft, loose body. He did not engage with the toy. He interacted appropriately with other dogs off-leash in playgroup.
We feel that Moose’s behavior is appropriate for an adopter with an average amount of experience.
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.
Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog may smell or lick, then turns away.
Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Moose greets politely and is tolerant of solicitation – however, Moose does offer correction when persistently solicited by a pushy dog.
7/13:When off leash with other dogs, Moose greets politely and is tolerant of solicitation – however, Moose does offer correction when persistently solicited by a pushy dog.
7/14:Moose is polite and tolerant with other dogs.
7/15 update:Moose greets politely and may briefly bounce around when solicited, but he is more interested in exploring his surroundings.
