06/26/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Gorgeous in his elegant coat the color of the finest pewter, Monk is quiet in his kennel, standing as soon as I approach. Easy to leash, we’re out the door quickly so he can go potty, and then we’re off to the park. Monk is easy on the leash, pulling slightly from time to time, but so easy to manage. We (really, he) gets tons of compliments as we walk, as he’s so nicely behaved and so stunning. He’s a head turner for sure!! Up on the bench to sit with me, he hugs and kisses enthusiastically, poses for some photos with a perfect sit, smiling his gorgeous smile showing off perfectly white teeth. When its time for a water break, Monk stands with his feet on the edge of the fountain lapping up water from the spout as I fill a bowl for him. Back at the building, we stand outside to talk to staff for a while, Monk leaning against me as I pet him. He’s all about his person, and I’m all about him. You will be too, so ask to meet Monk when you visit. A staff member writes: Normally, a puppy’s grey-blue eye color will change as they age. Not for this dog-version of Chris Hemsworth. He’s got those hypnotizing grey eyes that pierced my heart when I least expected it. The gaze in his eyes gave me the perfect image of what he looked like as a younger puppy. I’m not psychic, but I think that at one point in his life someone loved him from the moment they laid eyes on him. He’s a heartthrob sure to steal someone’s heart, but never to break it into a million pieces. I’m starting to sound repetitive, simply because I have no other way of putting. Come meet Monk “Hemsworth” today to understand this feeling he gives me.

INTAKE BEHAVIOR: Upon intake, Monk had a loose body and allowed handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 6/18/17 During his initial medical exam, Monk was social and tolerant. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Monk so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _X_Single-pet home _X_Recommend no dog parks Potential challenges: _X_On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: At the care center Monk has been observed to react to other dogs on leash, lunging towards them, barking and growling. Monk may need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach her to look at you rather than other dogs and novel stimuli that may startle her. We recommend a front clip harness or head halter to help manage this behavior.
