I am a female white and brown jack russ terr and chihuahua sh mix. The shelter thinks I am about 5 YEARS old.
I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 12/10/2016 from NY 11201, owner surrender reason stated was NEW BABY.

12/10/16 12:29 Mocha is a five year old female brown and white Jack Russell/ Chihuahua mix. She was surrendered by her owner due to owner having a new baby and no longer being able to provide for Mocha. Mocha was a gift from a friend and was with her owner since she was a few weeks old. Mocha was not taken to the vet by her previous owner. Mocha has lived with three adults and spent time with children ages two and above. She is described as shy around strangers and takes a few days to warm up to new people. She will engage in gentle play with the adults and the children. Mocha has been around a Pitbull and was described as playful and would engage in exuberant play with the dog. Mocha has never bitten a person or another animal. Mocha is walked once a day and will have accidents indoors daily according to her owner. She was provided with pee pads in the home which she occasionally uses. Mocha is scared of loud noises and will hide and cry. Mocha is not bothered when his food is touched while eating. If Mocha is eating a treat and is approached she will growl and will snap. Mocha is not bothered when bathed and owner stated she was bathed and brushed at home. Mocha loves rope toys, squeaky and ball toys. Mocha has been kept only indoors and is well behaved in the home. Mocha eats dry food Dog Chow brand and is fed once a day. Mocha is used to leash slow walks and does not pull on leash. Upon intake Mocha was tense and stood underneath her owner, she showed no interest in counselor. When approached she slowly wagged her tail and when counselor attempted to scan he growled and back away from the scanner (negative). Counselor proceeded slowly and was able to collar and she was receptive to petting, she jumped on counselor and wagged her tail. When counselor went to lift her for her photo she snapped and bedding was used.

Dog holds eye contact while remaining motionless with ears forward. Her body is stiff and becomes stiffer as assessment progresses. Sensitivity: 3. Dog stands tall and square. Her tail perpendicular to spine, mouth closed for the majority of assessment item. Tag: 5. Dog growls or tries to bite. Toy: 1. No interest Summary: Mocha remained very fearful and tense throughout, she was highly uncomfortable with up close handling. Mocha may benefit from placement with a New Hope rescue group who can further assess her behavior in a stable environment. PLAYGROUP: According to her previous owner, Mocha has lived with a pit bull and would engage in exuberant play with her. When off leash with other dogs at the Care Center, Mocha keeps to herself and wanders in the pen.
