02/12/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Moca came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Moca was a bit fearful with her tail tucked but she allowed all handling. During SAFER Moca came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was friendly and affectionate towards the assessor with a slow approach, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Moca follows the handler with her body and a bit fearful during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Moca was easy to handle when engaged with the item. In addition, we recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Moca be given the opportunity to interact at her own pace. The behavior department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Moca greets with a tense face and a low, tucked body. She is sensitive to the noises in the environment. She is tolerant of pushy behavior and does not engage in play.
