04/13/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/13/17 17:42 Dream entered shelter with her head low and tail tucked. When approached by counselor she slowly leans in and sniffs but is apprehensive to come close. She flinches away fast when arpproached with collar and scanner and needed some time to acclimate to counselor before allowing handling. Her tail remained tucked or below spine level during entire interaction.
04/16/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Yes she is! A little slip of a girl, sweet and friendly, a bit hand shy and happy to make new friends. Sevyn calls for attention in her upper kennel, allows herself to be lifted down easily and out we go. Using the ‘facilities’ outside right away tells me she might be housetrained, and she sniffs all the pungent smells enroute to the park. Sevyn is lovely on leash and stops every once in a while, as if thinking about the direction we’re heading, and with a bit of coaxing we move on. Cuddling and kissing are specialties, and she wags her tail gently as we snuggle. Her intake notes are adorable, as she didn’t like being restrained, but kissed the handler during the process. Seriously sweet!! An adorably tiny little girl, Sevyn is hoping her dreams will come true, and that she’ll find a new person to love. She’ll make your dreams come true too. Come meet her today. Video makes reference to her former name Dream.
04/16/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 4/13/17 Unaltered Female, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 4/16/17 Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful, her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is down, body stiff, mouth closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low, and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog head flips while pulling back paw. Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Summary: Dream appeared fearful during her assessment, having a tense body and moving away from the assessor. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: When off leash with another dog, Sevyn will immediately attempt to mount. She will listen to correction then solicit play with playbows and twirls. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 4/13/17 During her initial medical exam, Sevyn was tense. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Sevyn so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _X_No young children (under 5): Due to Sevyn’s response to some of the SAFER handling items, we feel she may be intimidated by small children. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful: Sevyn takes some time to warm up to new people, though she shows good coping skills when uncomfortable. We feel she will do best with an adopter prepared to allow her to warm up to new people and new environments slowly. Use of treats and other rewards will help to make new experiences positive. Positive reinforcement, reward based training is recommended.

BEHAVIOR :
Moana came to the care center as a stray so her behaviors in a home are unknown. Upon intake she appeared very sweet and allowed all handling. Moana was friendly upon entering SAFER assessment room, at times jumping up on handlers affectionately but a bit roughly. She held gaze for three full seconds during Look item. Moana leaned into
assessor during Sensitivity item, ears back, body soft. She followed at the end of the leash during Tag game, began displacement scratching towards end of game, then jumped up hard on assessor at the very end. She displayed energy and movement in between Squeeze attempts, quickly pulling her paw back on both Squeeze items. Moana grabbed Toy quickly, reacted to approaching assess-a-hand by grabbing it quickly as well. She was not stiff, but mouthy and grabby. When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Moana engages in bouts of soft play. She arrived as a stray so history around dogs is unknown. The behavior department recommends slow introductions with any resident dogs in a future home. The Behavior Team feels Moana would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have Young Children. She will benefit from training in regards to jumping up and impulse control regarding toys.
Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth.
Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, body soft, displacement scratching, jumps high on assessor at end.
Squeeze 1 / 2: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement in between attempts, quickly pulls paw back
Toy 2. Dog quickly mouths/grabs toy and mouths/grabs approaching assess-a-hand
Dog-dog: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Moana engages in bouts of soft play. She arrived as a stray so history around dogs is unknown. The behavior department recommends slow introductions with any resident dogs in a future home.
