A volunteer writes: Mister has a head to body ratio that needs to be seen to be believed. A little guy with a beach ball body that is very out of his element. He is very quiet in his cage and a little hesitant to come out, but once he does is eager to waddle around the block (though, not surprisingly, he tires quickly!). He seems to have housetraining and will take the treats I offer him in his cage, but not outside. On our first outing he spent some time hiding from me under a bench, but eventually approached me and let me pet him. On our next walk he was much more comfortable — nuzzling my hands when I would stop petting him and even climbing right into my lap when I sat down on the ground! I suspect Mister will warm up quickly in a home environment — he seemed very happy to start to see me as a friend. He’s at Brooklyn ACC and in need of a patient, loving, work-out buddy to help bring out the svelte, sweet little guy hiding in there!

05/18/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mister came in as a stray, so behaviors in a home are unknown. Upon intake it was reported Mister was shy but allowed all handling. During SAFER Mister came into the room calm and relaxed. Not all handling items were able to be conducted as Mister bared his teeth and growled at the assessor when attempting to pet him. He displayed no interest in the toy item during this portion of the assessment. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue that can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-Dog: Mister was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Mister is tolerant of dog who continually solicits her to play. He then sits in the corner for the remainder of the play session.
