06/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Miracle previously lived with adults and a 2 year old child. The owner stated Miracle is very good with children; she is friendly, affectionate and gentle. The owner mentioned Miracle has also lived with a cat and was relaxed and gentle with. It was reported by the owner at times Miracle can be reactive to new people, when a person initially approaches miracle she will bark and keep back, however after a while she will allow petting and rubbing. At intake it was reported Miracle was nervous, she barked and bared her teeth but eventually calmed down and allowed all handling. During SAFER Miracle came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was friendly and social towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Miracle was distracted and barks at the door when she heard loud noises during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Miracle was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Miracle’s previous owner reported that when she sees other dogs she will growl and bare her teeth. While off leash at the Care Center, she approaches the gate with a tense body, hackles raised and barking. Due to this behavior she is muzzled before being allowed to interact with the helper dog. Once let into the pen Miracle tolerated a greeting and reciprocated however once the other dog moved away she turned and lunged towards the dog. Due to some behavior concerns with other dogs, the behavior department feels she can be suitable for an experience adopter with no other dogs in the house hold and we recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Miracle be given the opportunity to interact at her own pace. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is between her legs, body a bit tense with her mouth closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash but distracted and barks. Squeeze 1 & 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog smells, then turns away.
