12/04/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
12/04/16 13:05 BASIC INFO Mindy A1098666 is an American Pitbull Terrier Mix. She is being surrendered to the shelter because she was found tied to a fence along a park by NYPD in The Bronx. Police gave Mindy some ham to gain her trust and cut her off of the fence she was tied to and placed her inside of a dog carrier. Mindy was then brought to ACCNYC Bronx. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE Mindy allowed all handling, collaring and photos, but did resist a little to get inside of kennel.
12/06/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Sleek, elegant and breathtaking in her gleaming brindle coat, Miss Mindy is shy but friendly, happy to make new friends in her quiet and unassuming way. Out for a walk she pulls a bit on leash, quickly takes care of her business and wags her tail gently as we walk. Posing like a pro for some quick photos in the park, we’re then off leash in a pen, where Mindy puts her paws in my lap for some petting, and nudges my hand when I stop. So sweet! Mindy was found tied to a fence and brought to our care by the police, so is finding her balance in this new and strange place. I’d be shy too! Taking some treats gently, she greets every dog that passes our pen with an easy salute of her tail, and then comes back to me for more petting. As shy as she is now, she’ll open up with time and show us the affectionate and sweet dog that’s in there. When it was time for her to go back into her kennel she hopped right back in and I promised her a person or family who will love her to the moon and back. She’s so ready….are you? Ask to meet Miss Mindy when you visit.
12/06/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Unaltered, Stray Other notes: Upon intake Mindy allowed handling. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 12/6/2016 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog leans in and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, lip lick Tag: 2. Dog is follows at the end of the leash, alert and focused on assessor Squeeze 1: 3. Dog is difficult to position, closes mouth, becomes stiff. Flank Squeeze 1 / 2: 1 No response, slight lip lick Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog sniffs, paw slaps, mouths, then walks away. Summary: Mindy appears uncomfortable in kennel, body low, but came out easily and warmed up once in SAFER assessment room, nudging assessor’s hand with her nose to solicit attention. Mindy may do best with a slow approach/slow introduction, preferably with treats. We recommend allowing Mindy a proper period of decompression to aid in acclimating to a new home environment. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Hyper-motivated: These dogs come on too strong and have coarse social skills. They have had a poor history of social experience with other dogs and were most likely deprived of off- leash contact. They are overly excited when meeting new dogs, often up in the other dog’s face and not able to read subtle signals to back off, which can quickly lead to a scuffle. PLAYGROUP: Mindy frequently engages in running chase play with other dogs in the care center. She has displayed the potential to become over-aroused during play, however has begun to display less of this concerning arousal with continued interaction. The behavior department recommends slow introductions between Mindy and other dogs who are tolerant, or engage in a similar style of play. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/4/16 During her initial medical exam Mindy appeared tense and nervous. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (Suitable for an adopter with a previous amount of dog experience)

She becomes tense when engaging in chase play and begins to correct the other dogs involved in play. 12/7: Mindy solicits play from other dogs by bowing, nudging, and vocalizing. She becomes easily overaroused during play and requires handler intervention to slow her down. 12/14: Mindy attempts to solicit from a non-playful dog. 12/17: Mindy engages in running play with male and female dogs.
