A Volunteer Wrote: If you are one of those people who prefers not to be touched, best to steer clear of Milly. Here is the entirety of Milly’s agenda: Kiss kiss kiss kiss, snuggle snuggle, collapse in lap, spin around with joy that such things are possible, return to kissing, collapse in lap, repeat. “Not too friendly, is she?” someone on the street jokingly asked as they walked by. (I couldn’t see them to respond, being smothered by a Milly love attack.) This joyful, petite puppy will be the dog that a child today will still be talking about when they are 40 as the love of their lives, and the dog that you will know, within minutes, is going to be yours.
Another volunteer writes: I call her my little “ingenue”, a genuine and innocent little babe, only six months of age who has totally won my heart as the best puppy ever. She is a little brindle, easy to pass over despite her lovely almond shape eyes, so intense and burning to be in company, play and snuggle tight with whoever would be so kind to take her out… She is a real bundle of joy, a lovely chocolate and caramel candy who runs with her caretaker, ears flapping in the air. She is a perfect “sitter” and takes treats gently from the hand. She does not mouth or goes for the leash and walks quite nicely for a youngster. Her tail wags non stop and she is an incredible lap dog. True that she looks quite serious. A smile does not come easy on her face but her eyes speak volumes . She is having fun sharing her time with a human as well as with her peers in playgroup. Milly is a well balanced puppy who just needs some fine tuning , the type any puppy needs to make them great adults living in sync with us , humans. Milly is the one you always dreamed of , your true forever best friend , your loyal companion. Come and meet her soon at the Manhattan Care Center.
Behavior:
Milly pulls a bit on the leash. She was a bit excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, licked hands and easily engages in play, body is loose and wiggly, mouth open. Milly took the toy away but had soft body language.
Milly did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home.
Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. Her body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor.
Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw.
Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw.
Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy.
Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Milly is social, and engages in bouncy play. She avoids dogs who are pushy with interaction.
Group Behavior: When off leash with other dogs, Milly is social, and engages in bouncy play. She avoids dogs who are pushy with interaction. 1/20 update: Milly engages in bouncy play with both male and female dogs. 1/21: Milly engages in soft play with other playful dogs. She runs away from an overly pushy dog. 1/22 update: Milly interacts politely with a calm male or female dog, but will avoid dogs that push interaction from her.
