06/30/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Just looking at Mikee, a smile comes to my face and I feel instantly good. His eyes laugh. His smile is so genuine and sweet. This is not the heat or excitement that brought on that happy face. I think Mikee is just glad to be out and in the company of other dogs and people…and it shows like an open book. I can say, therefore, that I enjoyed my time with him from the beginning to the end. Mikee is a strong dog, but nothing I cannot manage. (I am an average-sized woman). He seems quite house trained and marks his territory. He has an eye for the ladies. Pitties, Chihuahuas, Sheppies…it does not matter…he loves them all, and loses his marbles over them. His tail wag into a blur. He will play bow, try to open the door to join them and forget that the world exists all around him. Poor me…I waited patiently for the gals to leave and Mikee came back to me, to my treats and the balls that he chased at the time. He is a friendly guy, found as a stray, said to be four years of age and absolutely gorgeous. He is a big “little rascal”, dressed beautifully in a cream and brindle coat, healthy looking and a real masterpiece. Mikee won my heart, although big hulks are not usually dogs I will go for. He is just special. I hope you will feel the same about him and give him the chance to become your forever best friend. Mikee is at the Manhattan Care Center.
06/30/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Nikee pulls a bit on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. Nikee was overexcited during handling, jumping up, grabbing at the leash, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. He did a lot of jumping up, body checking and played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction and was a bit difficult to distract him. Nikee took the toy away but had soft body language. Nikee show a bit of concern during the tag interaction he became a bit over arousal. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 3. Dog responds with his tail high, ears forward, mouth likely closed for at least half of the assessment item, body stiff and body checks the Assessor. Dog is often focused on other stimuli in the room. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup notes: When off leash with other dogs, Mikee greets the female greeter, whining and postures to mount her.
06/29/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Mikee has displayed mostly sexually motivated behaviors during off leash socialization at the care center. He has on occasion displayed brief reciprocation when solcitied with play. However, it should be taken into consideration that Mikee is unaltered at this time. The behavior department feels that Mikee should have a pre-adoption interaction and slow introdcutions to ensure compatability with any resident dogs. Due to the fact that he arrived as a stray, it is unknown how exactly his behavior around dogs may translate into a home environment. 6/29: When off leash with other dogs, Mikee greets the female greeter, whining and postures to mount her. 7/1 update: Mikee is sexually motivated and does not engage in play when solicited. 7/2 update: Mikee continues to be sexually motivated in a group of females but will engage in play when solicited.
