08/18/16 21:33 Midnight is a 4 year old neutered Labrador Retriever. He was given to owner as a gift and has been in owners care since a puppy. Midnight is being surrendered into the center due to owner having personal problems. There are no known health injuries or concerns. Around stranger he is shy for a few minutes has lived with children ages 1-10 and is relaxed and respectful. With adults he can be gentle and somewhat rough and with children he is gentle. He has been around other dogs and is relaxed. No history of being around cats. There is no known history of him biting another person or animal. When his food bowl is being touched while eating he isn’t bothered or when treats, objects or when toys are being taken away from him. He is afraid when being held or restrained and isn’t bothered when disturbed while sleeping. He is afraid of getting baths and when nails are being trimmed but is friendly when coat is being brushed. When unfamiliar people approach you or the home he is friendly. Midnight is described as being friendly, playful and excitable with a high activity level. He loves to be around his family. When home he will follow you around or be in the same room. He likes to play with squeaky or chew toys. Mostly indoors he ate dry food and slept with owner. He is house trained and would usually potty on the grass or dirt. When left alone in the house he is well behaved. He knows such commands as “sit” “come” “down” and “stay”. For exercise he played in the yard. On leash he pulls lightly.

Midnight lived with his previous owner since puppyhood. He is noted to be shy with strangers. He lived with children aged 1-10 years, and was relaxed and gentle. He is relaxed around other dogs and has not been exposed to cats. He is described as friendly, playful, and excitable, with a high activity level. At intake it was reported Midnight was social and easy to handle. During SAFER Midnight came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly and social towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Midnight joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Midnight was easy to handle when engaged with the item.Midnight appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Midnight is very nervous. He greets the other dog displaying a tucked tail and low body. He is tolerant of the other dog’s greeting but mostly avoids her as he explores the pen.

According to Midnight’s previous owner, Midnight has been around other dogs and is relaxed. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Midnight was initially nervous but has become more relaxed with further playgroup sessions. He is social, checking in with male and female dogs as he explores the pen. The Behavior Department recommends that Midnightbe placed in a home with dogs that match his calm energy level. 8/19: Midnight is very nervous. He greets the other dog displaying a tucked tail and low body. He is tolerant of the other dog’s greeting but mostly avoids her as he explores the pen. 8/25: Midnight is more relaxed as he wanders in a group of male and female dogs. 8/31-9/1: Midnight displays soft body language as he interacts in a group of male and female dogs. He is social, checking in on them often. He displays slight assertive posturing, standing tall next to a male dog, but is able to listen to handler interruptions and continues to wander.
