08/09/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Midnight previously lived with adults and children 9 years old and up. The owner stated Midnight is friendly and playful around strangers, adults and children, Midnight loves sleeping in their beds also. It was reported by the owner Midnight is house trained and well behaved when home alone. The owner describes Midnight as wiggly and affectionate. At intake it was reported Midnight was friendly and allowed all handling. During SAFER Midnight came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly and social towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Midnight joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Midnight was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Due to Midnight’s previous playgroup session, a muzzle was placed on Midnight before she was allowed to enter into the pen. Once in the pen, Midnight greets the other dog displaying stiff body language but is tolerant of his greeting. She is too occupied with the muzzle to be interested in the other dog so the session is ended. The behavior department feels she can be suitable for an experience adopter and we recommend being the only dog in the home so she can feel comfortable. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: Due to Midnight’s previous playgroup session, a muzzle was placed on Midnight before she was allowed to enter into the pen. Once in the pen, Midnight greets the other dog displaying stiff body language but is tolerant of his greeting. She is too occupied with the muzzle to be interested in the other dog so the session is ended.
08/08/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Midnight’s previous owner reported that she has spent a large amount of time around other dogs and is active and playful with them. When off leash at the Care Center, Midnight displays assertive behavior, rushing at the other dog and mounting him. When a muzzle is placed on her, she displays stiff body language as the other dog greets her but is occupied with the muzzle. Due to her behavior in playgroup, the Behavior Department recommends that Midnight be placed in a home with no other dogs. 8/8: Midnight greets the helper dog with a stiff, but slightly wiggly body and a lowered head. She rushes in when the gate is open to exchange sniffs and her hackles raise, she performs a chin-over and then mounts the male dog on his flank side and freezes on top of him. Midnight is interrupted and separated due to this assertive behavior. 8/9: Due to Midnight’s previous playgroup session, a muzzle was placed on Midnight before she was allowed to enter into the pen. Once in the pen, Midnight greets the other dog displaying stiff body language but is tolerant of his greeting. She is too occupied with the muzzle to be interested in the other dog so the session is ended.
