A volunteer writes: Stunning in his gleaming black coat, Midnight is perfectly named for his color, but if we were naming him for his personality it would be Sunshine! He’s fun, affectionate, playful, tail waggy and a stop and sniff the roses kind of a walker on leash. So many new smells to enjoy enroute! He’s likely housetrained, and after going potty the moment we were out the door gave me a big stand up hug as a thank you. You’re so welcome, Midnight! His teeth are white and bright, his weight perfect for his size, and his gleaming coat all speak to his good care before joining us. Off leash Midnight loves to play with a ball, doesn’t guard it, and brings it over for a fun game of keep away – so cute! Taking treats gently he chomps and then runs over to pick up his ball again or toss a toy. Fun, friendly with an ever wagging tail, Midnight is looking for a fun family to call his own. Come meet our boy and you decided whether he should be Midnight or Sunshine!!!
Another volunteer writes: Can’t find Milly Rock in his kennel? That’s likely because he’s: 1)out for a walk with a volunteer (he’s a favorite), or 2) he’s romping in play with another dog! Milly Rock has an important job with us, a greeter dog for new dogs entering the system, and he’s a rockstar! Matching his play style to that of his partner he’s a joy to watch play. Tail wagging, friendly and welcoming, new dogs are put at ease by his play style. Milly Rock is so smart that it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s whispering some words of encouragement to his new playmate. Come meet our gorgeous, friendly, hunk of a boy today.

BEHAVIOR:
Finders said that he ate dry food while at their home and was very very hyper but not aggressive. Midnight was very hyper and pulled and jumped on councilor and desks. He was friendly but hard to handle, he still allowed all handling.
Milly Rock came into the care center as a stray. His finder says that he was high-energy in the home, but showed no aggression. He was exuberant at intake, jumping on the Admissions Counselor and jumping onto desks. He was easy to handle for his initial medical examination. He pulled hard on the leash during his SAFER relief walk, and jumped hard on the assessor in the room. He was friendly upon entering SAFER assessment room. Milly Rock held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, relaxed. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, open mouth. Milly rock was distracted during Tag game, unresponsive to touch at each pass, jumping up and slightly mouthing assessor, but settled easily. He mouthed assessor’s hand without applying pressure on first Squeeze attempt, did not pull his paw back on second Squeeze. Milly Rock engaged with Toy, kept a firm grip, body not stiff. When off leash, Milly Rock plays exuberantly with other dogs, both male and female. The Behavior Team feels Milly Rock would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have young children. He may benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners as well as no mouthing.
Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture.
Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, jumps up and mouths slightly, settles easily
Squeeze 1: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure.
Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not pull back paw
Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip, not stiff
Dog-dog: When off leash, Milly Rock plays exuberantly with other dogs, both male and female.
Milly Rock arrived without history on previous interactions with other dogs, so this is unknown. When off leash he engagesin rough, exuberant play with males and females. The behavior team feels that Milly Rock may be placed into a home with another social, highly playful dog.
2/2: When off leash with other dogs, Milly Rock is social and playful, engaging in bouncy play with the helper dog.
2/3 update: Milly Rock is bouncy and playful, ignoring correction from dogs that are not comfortable with his exuberant play style.
2/4 update: Milly Rock engages in rough, mouthy play with males and females.
2/7 update: Milly Rock continues to engage in rough, mouthy play with males and females. He becomes vocal during play.
