04/12/16 12:25 BASIC INFORMATION: Midnight is a black/white 3yr old male American Pit bull terrier mix. Midnight was given to owner as a gift & has not been to a Vet within the past year. Midnight was surrendered to ACC due to owner’s personal problems & no longer having enough time to care for him. SOCIALIZATION: Midnight is very friendly towards strangers, he approaches strangers with a wagging tail & open mouth. Midnight allows strangers to pet him & loves attention. Midnight has resided with a 16 yr old & has been exposed to a 5 & 8yr old. Midnight plays gently with children & loves to play with children. Midnight also plays gently with the adults in the home. Midnight has resided with another dog, he gets along well with other dogs. Midnight plays with other dogs in the street or park. Midnight has not been exposed to cats or other small animals. Midnight has not bitten or scratched another animal or person within the past 10days. BEHAVIOR: Midnight’s owner stated he growled when owner attempted to touch around him while he was eating & also when attempting to take an object away from his mouth. Midnight did not bite and owner stopped going near him while he eats. Midnight loves baths & grooming. When someone unfamiliar approaches the home, he will bark to alert owner. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW: Midnight is best described as a friendly, affectionate & playful dog. His activity level is high. Midnight loves to go for brisk walks & follows owner around when they arrive. Midnight loves to play with balls & squeaky toys, he also plays tug with owner. Midnight would do best in a family home. Midnight has been kept mostly indoors. He enjoys eating wet & dry food from any brand. Midnight enjoys milk bones as treats. Midnight is house trained & is well behaved when left alone in the home. Midnight is also well behaved when left in the yard. Midnight pulls when walked on leash. He prefers grass when he goes potty. BEHAVIOR UPON INTAKE: Midnight appeared to be very friendly. He displayed a wagging tail & an open mouth. He allowed all handling and scanned negative.

Midnight previously lived with 2 adults and has resided with a 5, 8 and 16 year old. The owner stated Midnight plays gently with children and loves to play with children. The owner mentioned Midnight will growl when attempted to touch his food bowl or when objects are taken away from his mouth. The owner describes Midnight as a friendly, affectionate and playful. It was reported by the owner Midnight is house trained, has a high activity level and well behaved when home alone. At intake it was reported Midnight was friendly with his tail wagging, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Midnight came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly and affectionate towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Midnight was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Midnight was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Due to some concerns stated from the previous owner Midnight will growl when his food bowl is being touch; the behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter with no children. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Midnight approaches the gate and greets with a soft posture. He interacts briefly with the helper dog but mostly explores the yard. He does become a little sexually motivated but does not attempt to mount.
