04/16/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: With a face like a puzzle piece, or maybe a Picasso cubist painting, Michael is a stunning black and white pup in a lush coat, and a tail shaped like an O. Greeting me in his kennel with an easy tail wag we head outside where he goes potty immediately and off we go to the park. Chasing a bird here and there as we go (so fun to watch them soar), his leash manners are good pulling slightly from time to time. Michael is a bit too thin so is being fed an extra meal daily but still sits when asked for a treat and takes them gently. Good boy, Michael! Happily greeting dogs that pass our pen he then runs back to me for more petting. Friendly and easy our behavior team feels that Michael will be fine in a home with average dog experience. His nice manners and soft personality won my heart and will win yours when you meet him. To watch the video please copy and paste this link into your browser bar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?
04/15/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Michael pulls a bit on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Michael followed the assessor at the end of the leash with a calm and relaxed body language when playing tag. He took the toy away with a soft body language. Michael did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, ears back, wagging tail, open mouth. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Michael is anxious and pushy when greeting, eventually attempting to mount.
04/14/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Michael has only exhibited sexually motivated behaviors when interacting with females. He also mounts a male and when correction is offered he escalates (growling and snapping). He arrived at the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction before placing him into a home with other dogs. When off leash with other dogs, Michael is anxious and pushy when greeting, eventually attempting to mount. 4/18 update: Michael is energetic and exuberant, barreling into the pen and leaping toward the helper dog, then persistantly attempting to mount. 4/19 update: Michael is sexually motivated and is slow to take correction from handlers. He ignores a male dog in the pen with him. 4/21 update: Michael is sexually motivated and pushy when attempting to mount. He begins to respond to correction from another dog. 4/22 update: Michael, again, attempts to mount females as well as the male in the pen. When offered correction from the male he escalates but both stop on their own.
