05/28/16 19:43hrs Mia is described as anxious yet friendly and affectionate. She enjoys being petted and having her belly rubbed by her family. Mia has lived with adults in her home but has interacted with her owner’s nieces aged 9 and 10 years old. Mia allows the children to pet her and play with her. Mia is the only pet in the home but has interacted with other dogs outside. Mia will allow small dogs at the dog run to approach her and sniff her but she doesn’t interact with them too much. Mia spends most of the day sleeping. Mia will wag her tail at her family or make a small yelp to get their attention. Mia enjoys being petted and having her belly rubbed and may bark if her family stops petting her too soon. Mia is bathed at least a week and enjoys playing in the water. She will wait inside of the tub and bark until the water is turned on for her. She will attempt to jump out of the tub once she is being bathed. She will grow stiff and growl under different circumstances: being approached or touched while eating, attempting to remove her from a hiding space, or touching her rear. She will sometimes guard family members in the home as well, growling when someone attempts to approach them. Mia is well behaved when left alone in the home, barking sometimes at sounds that she notices. Mia barks at the door bell ringing and when guest enter the home. She is normally locked in the room when there are guest because she will bark at them continuously sometimes running after them while barking. Mia enjoys playing with her stuffed toys and playing fetch and tug. She knows the commands, sit, stay go and up (uppa).” Mia is housetrained to use wee wee pads. She is walked at least 1x a day sometimes only a walk through the building every morning because of her behavior. Mia will pant heavily, bark and pull constantly while being walked outside of the building until she reaches the park where there is grass. Mia will calm down inside of the park, sniffing at everything and sometimes eating the grass. Her owner has attempted to calm her down by using a Thunder Shirt during her walks but she stated that it didn’t help her. When Mia hears loud rain, or the sound of food frying or steaming loudly, she will run and hide or run to her owner and jump up so that she can be picked up. She also attacks brooms mops and shoes when in use. Mia eats Blue Wilderness dry and wet dog food. Mia normally sleeps in bed with her owner at night or her own bed.

06/06/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mia came into our center as an owner surrender after biting the child in the home while being bathed. It is reported Mia will become stiff and growl if anyone touches her food while she is eating, or tries to take her out of a hiding place. Owner reports Mia will also growl if touched near her tail/back end. She reportedly may guard family members in the home at times, growling if someone approaches. She may at times attack brooms, mops and shoes while in motion. She may reportedly bark and chase after guests in the home while barking. Owner reports Mia is housetrained to use wee wee pads indoors, knows the cues sit, stay, go, and up (uppa). Mia was friendly and sociable upon entering SAFER assessment room, but began jumping up over and over towards the desk. She was difficult to position for tactile portions of the assessment, focused on the table and desk. Mia allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, focused on other stimuli. She stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, open mouth pant, ears and tail neutral. Mia followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, turned towards the hand and stopped following after the third pass. She approached assessor at end of game with gentle coaxing. Mia did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. She showed no interest in Toy, though this may be due to environment as owner reports she enjoys playing with her stuffed toys and playing fetch and tug. She approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, investigated and then turned away. Based on Mia’s owner surrender profile and the nature of her intake, the Behavior Team feels Mia would do best with an Experienced adopter who does not have Children. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted, focused on other stimuli in the room. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture, open mouth Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, body soft, turns towards hand and stops following on last pass Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed Toy 1. No interest. Dog – dog 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, investigates, then turns away
