Metro
Hello, my name is Metro. My animal id is #16721. I am a male gray brindle dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 22-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving – no pets allowed.
Metro is at risk for behavior challenges (New Hope Only determination). He has allowed minimal handling in the care center, she shows some touch sensitivity and fearful behavior. A slow approach to handling is recommended but we do feel that Metro is not thriving in the shelter environment.

He will snap at the owner and pull his paw away. He alert barks when someone approaches the house or yard. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to how uncomfortable Metro is currently with touch and novel stimuli, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time. New hope partner: Metro has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
Potential challenges: : Handling/touch sensitivity,Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Handling/touch sensitivity: Dog has been noted to become uncomfortable with handling at times, especially when a person is reaching over him. It is important to always go slow and give dog the option to walk away from any social interaction. Dog should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Dog’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Dog may do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings. Fearful: Metro takes some time to warm up to new people, though he shows signs when uncomfortable. His previous owner also notes that he is reactive towards unfamiliar people. We feel he will do best with an adopter prepared to allow him to warm up to new people and new environments slowly. Use of treats and other rewards will help to make new experiences positive.
