08/06/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/06/16 22:00 Mercedes came into our shelter as an owner surrender. The owner was surrending because she was showing signs of discomfort around the owners new born baby and the mother. She would growl at the owners girlfriend when around the baby. They believe that she was getting territorial and wasnt doing so well around the children. She did play with the younger boy abut 8 years old but played reaslly ruff. When interacting with her she had a soft body, wagging tail and jumping up to give kisses.
08/06/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: In so many of my pictures the sun was shining directly on Mercedes from an otherwise overcast sky. Some would take that as a sign……:) She’s an adorable little peanut, surrendered by her family due to her growling at a new baby in the home although she lived well with the resident children in general. When I first approached her kennel she was lying froggy style and it was so cute I tried to get a photo but she saw me and stood right away to be leashed. She was so excited to go out, bouncy as I leashed her but with very nice leash manners as we walked to the park. She checks up while we walk, her tail wags and her eyes twinkle with the fun of it all. In the park Mercedes gets a wild case of the zoomies and we/she attracted quite an audience as she ran circles around me. So funny! A sweet little peanut, she then posed for some pictures, softly enjoyed some treats and always showed off that twinkle in her eye. With other dogs Mercedes romps happily offering paw slaps to solicit play. A tiny bundle of playful energy our behavior assessors suggest an experienced home without very young children due to her jumpy play style. Come meet out little shining star today.
08/04/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mercedes came to our care as an owner surrender citing growling at new baby in the home and jumping on children. During intake, Mercedes was friendly and calm. On her relief walk, she pulled a bit on the leash. Entering the assessment room, she appeared friendly and social. She jumped up and licked the assessor’s face during Look item. Mercedes leaned in, lip licked, and wagged her tail during Sensitivity. For Tag, she followed, a bit hesitant on the last pass, body soft. She pulled back her paw quickly during both Squeeze attempts and sniffed the assessor’s hand. She had brief bouts of enthusiasm over Toy but quickly lost interest. The Behavior Team recommends an Experienced home with no very young children. She may benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners, as well as no jumping up. Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, soft body, tail wagging. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, a bit hesitant. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog pulls back her paw quickly. Dog sniffs hand. Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog has brief bouts of enthusiasm then loses interest. Dog-to-dog: Mercedes is exuberantly playful during interaction with other dogs. Her former owner cites no previous info on her history with dogs, so this is unknown, and it is unknown how her behavior around dogs will translate into a home. The behavior team feels that Merceds could be placed into a home with another social, highly playful dog.
