KNOWN HISTORY: Neutered, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 12/28/16 Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Mellow was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. 11/28: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Mellow displays a very loose and wiggly body when greeting a novel female dog. Once in the pen, he mounts the female, persisting after she offers a soft correction and the handlers interrupt. 12/30: With a playful male dog, Mellow displays loose and wiggly body language. He solicits and engages in gentle play, tolerating a mouthy play style. 1/4: Mellow was high energy today. He rushed the gate and when he was allowed to interact with a playful male, he again rushes him and mounts immediately. Mellow did respond right away to being interrupted by the handler.
