Hello, my name is Mecca. My animal id is #15594. I am a desexed female brown dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a returns on 19-Dec-2017.
Mecca is at risk due to being diagnosed with Canine Infection Respiratory Disease Complex and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other dogs. Mecca is suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience.

Mecca was loose bodied during intake and came to counselor when spoken to. She was very curious about the people walking by and allowed all handling.

Basic Information:: Mecca is a 3 year old medium mixed breed. She is being returned to the center due to her owner having no time for her.
Previously lived with:: 1 adult, 1 teenager
How is this dog around strangers?: Mecca seems curious when stranger come in the home. She will approach and sniff them.
How is this dog around children?: Mecca lived a 13 year old and was respectful and loving towards him.
How is this dog around other dogs?: Mecca has had no interactions wih dogs so her behavior is unknown.
How is this dog around cats?: Mecca spent a few hours with a cat and did not mind the cat at all.
Resource guarding:: Mecca showed no signs of resource guarding.
Bite history:: Mecca did not bite a person or another animal.

Other Notes:: Owner states that Mecca is very house trained and waits to be walked outside.
Has this dog ever had any medical issues?: No
For a New Family to Know: Owner stated that Mecca will wait by the door when he comes in to the apartment. She was fed Science Diet dry food. She is well behaved when left loose in the aprtment by herself. She enjoys brisk walks and running. She pulls very hard on leash.

Look:: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
Sensitivity:: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, eyes are averted, and tail is in neutral position with a relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag:: 1. Dog follows at the end of the leash, body soft.
Paw squeeze 1:: 1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw.
Paw squeeze 2:: 1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw.
Toy:: 1. No interest.
Summary:: Mecca came into the room loose and wiggly, she was friendly and attention seeking towards the handlers.
Summary (1):: Mecca is calm around both male and female dogs and explores the pens, occasionally checking in with the other dogs. She will offer corrections to playful dogs, and keeps her distance. Mecca was brought in as a stray so her past behavior with other dogs is unknown. The Behavior Department recommends that Mecca be placed in a home with resident dogs that are respectful and matches her calm demeanor. 12/8: When off leash at the Care Center, Mecca is nervous but greet the male greeter. She offers him soft muzzle punches and corrections when he attempts to solicit play. 12/9: Mecca calmly greets the female greeter with a soft posture. She explores the pens and occasionally checks in with the other dog.
