A volunteer writes:

I could not resist taking Mc Rib out….I love Shepherds and this young guy is a beautiful representative of the breed. When Mc Rib saw a potential caretaker..he became all excited in his kennel, jumping and barking in excitement…Hum..A bronco ! Will I manage? Let’s go for it…Leashing him was a bit of a juggle but we made our way to the street. What a strong dog and such a puller. I thought I had transformed into a kite… At some point, he seemed to want to “go for the leash” but then thought better. I made him sit and petted him all over, gave him a treat for good behavior and we somehow “made friends”.  After doing his business, Mc Rib adopted  a slower pace and we went  uneventfully around the block. He barked in excitement at a few passing dogs and appeared to want to follow a bike, but again, thought better when I recalled him. Mc Rib can sit on command and takes treats very gently from my hands. He very much seems to enjoy caresses and responds to correction.  I was told that he was enjoying himself in a playgroup with a peer. May be his barking at other dogs in the street is just part of his uncurbed enthusiasm…Mc Rib is absolutely gorgeous and dressed in a magnificent and well groomed coat with beautiful markings. He seems healthy although a bit on the thin side. He performed quite well on his behavior evaluation but being a Shepherd  and quite an energetic one , he needs experienced Shepherds hands to give him the training he needs and deserves to be a most awesome  and loyal friend. Mc Rib is at the Manhattan Care Center. Come and meet him soon.
