01/22/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Maybeline is a young gal, quite lively, a bit too thin(no wonder that she loves treats!!) and perfectly dressed in her pure chocolate and milk coat. Despite her cone(placed after her spay) , she is in good spirit and really wants to go for walks, spend time with a caretaker and have fun. Maybeline earned lovely comments from other volunteers who already walked her. She does pull slightly on the leash but offers a perfect sit for treats or none. She even, to my surprise, laid down upon request…She is really charming, pixie like, her small size helping of course. She meets properly other dogs in the street, even the small ones and enjoys her time in playgroups with her peers. She could be house trained, eliminating during our stroll and leaving her kennel clean. In a nutshell, Maybeline is a cute, small size Pitie girl, friendly, sociable, playful, affectionate and good with her own kind. She is ready to jump into your life and make it bright and beautiful. Maybe line is at the Manhattan Cate Center.
01/18/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Intact, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: Look: 1. Dog jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, closed mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Jumps on Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Summary: Maybeline displayed a high level of energy during her assessment, jumping up on the assessor throughout. She would benefit from positive reinforcement training to teach her basic manners. She will need daily physical activity, such as runs, walks, and play, and mental stimulation, such puzzle toys and kongs. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Hyper-motivated: These dogs come on too strong and have coarse social skills. They have had a poor history of social experience with other dogs and were most likely deprived of off- leash contact. They are overly excited when meeting new dogs, often up in the other dog’s face and not able to read subtle signals to back off, which can quickly lead to a scuffle. PLAYGROUP: When off leash with male and female dogs Maybeline engages in bouncy, running play. She seeks attention from handlers after play ceases. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:1/16/17 During initial medical exam Maybeline allowed handling ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (Suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience) Potential challenges: _X_Basic manners/Poor impulse control (It is recommended that default behaviors such as “Leave it”, “Sit/Stay”, “Down” are reinforced to substitute frustration and teach her to control her impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training is recommended.)
01/18/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Maybeline engages in a pushy style of play with other dogs in the care center. Maybeline’s play style often entails, vocalizations, high speed chase, and continued solicitation. The behavior department recommends slow, structured introductions between Maybeline and dogs who are tolerant of Maybeline’s style of play. 1/18: When off leash with male and female dogs Maybeline engages in bouncy, running play. She seeks attention from handlers after play ceases. 1/20: Maybeline engages in running play with male and female dogs of varying sizes. She will often attempt to assert herself with male dogs that are not comfortable with her playstyle. 1/24: Maybeline engages in assertive, vocal play. 1/25: Maybeline is vocal and pushy when soliciting. She becomes increasingly tense and vocal when attempting to solicit from a dog who is uninterested in play. She vocalizes in response to receiving a correction from this dog.
