Medical Behavior Evaluation GREEN
Medical Summary Microchip scan neg.MN, approx 11 yr. O: BARH. Fearful, very tense, does not like to be picked up, tries to bite. ORAL: No teeth present. Oral mucosa WNL.
EENT: Mild NS OU. No oculonasal discharge. H/L: Lungs clear, no murmurs/arrhythmias. ABD/UG: Neutered male. Palpation WNL. MS: Amb x 4, no lameness. Palpation WNL. BCS=5/9. INTEG: Full, clean haircoat. Long nails. A: Age est 11 yrs. Apparently healthy senior dog. Absence of teeth likely due to prioe dental disease. P: Nail trim. Feed soft food. Excellent prognosis.
PROFILE: Maxx is an 11 year old Male Chihuahua mix; he came to the previous owner’s home as a gift. He is being surrendered because of the owner’s eviction. Maxxex is missing all of his teeth, and has not been to a vet recently.
Socialization: Around strangers Maxx is very fearful he will growl and attempt to bite. His has been around children of various ages and is usually tolerant and allows them to pet, however he does not like his ears being touched. He has lived in a home with birds and usually barks at them an tries to bite them when they are loose around the home.
Behavior: If an individual tries to touch Maxx’s food bowl he will growl and snap at the individual. During bathing Maxx will run out of the tub and hid. If an individual that he does not know tries to hold him he will growl and snap. When an unfamiliar person or family member comes to the house Maxxex run and hide under the bed at first but will later relax and stay in his bed.
For a new family: Maxx was described as Mellow, shy, and anxious by his previous family. He has a medium activity level and often enjoys playing with stuffed toys, and fetch with tennis balls Maxx is feed dry and wet food twice a day. He is house trained and goes outside to use the bathroom twice a day in the grass or cement. Maxxex has never been crate trained. He uses a harness and is usually off leash.
Admission behavior: When the counselor approached Maxx he growled and snapped. The counselor asked the owner to scan and collar Maxx. When the owner tried to pick up Maxx he snapped at the owner and attempted to bite the owner hand. Due Maxx showing signs of stress, a photo was not taken
