01/05/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I met Maxine this past weekend as I approached her immaculately clean kennel. I see her sitting very calmly not making a whole lot of ruckus like her kennel mates. I leash her up and we head to the yard. Maxine is shy at first, not wanting the treats I’m offering her but as time wears on she decides to join me on the bench and partake of the treats after that I petted her and we played a bit in the yard. She keeps looking for her owner through the fence in the yard and it breaks my heart. Maxine is a wonderful sweet dog who would make a nice companion or family pet. If your interested in adopting Maxine she is located at the Animal Care Center on Staten Island. Another volunteer writes: If ever you’re having a bad day, Maxine is the one you want to see! She lets me know the moment she sees me how happy she is that I’m there, and those big hazel eyes of hers eagerly watch me as I unlock her cage. She’s a little jumpy to start because of her happy exuberance, but once we’re outside, she calms down and is all business. Many times during her stay, she’s been the only girl in a room full of boys, but she holds her own. Sometimes it seems that they follow her lead when it comes to behaving in their cages. If you’re looking for a pretty, one-puppy welcoming party every time you walk through the door, sweet Maxine is who you want. If you’re interested in adopting this happy girl, stop by our Care Center on Staten Island.

When a handler stepped in to correct both dogs, Maxine responded right away and backed away. Maxine was very polite and playful when greeted by a submissive and shy female.
