09/13/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 9/8/17 Unaltered Male, Stray Other notes: SAFER ASSESSMENT: 9/12/17 Look:1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity:1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag:1. Follows at end of leash, body soft Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Summary: Maximus was friendly and social towards the assessor. PLAYGROUP: When off leash at the Care Center, Maximus is mostly sexually motivated and will attempt to mount female dogs. He is slightly uncomfortable, displaying a stiff body around a novel male dog. Maximus was surrender as a stray so his past behavior with other dogs is unknown. The Behavior Department recommends that Maximus be placed in a home with resident female dogs that are tolerant of his sexually motivated behavior and match his calm sociability. INTAKE BEHAVIOR: 9/8/17: Maximus was friendly and allowed all handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/8/17: During his medical examination, Maximus was loose and friendly, he allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Maximus so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _X_Recommend no dog parks: Due to the concerning behaviors that Maximus has shown during playgroup (see GROUPBEHAVIOR SUMMARY), we feel that Maximus should not visit dog parks. The Behavior Department recommends that he be socialized in a more controlled setting until his behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed.
09/09/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash at the Care Center, Maximus is mostly sexually motivated and will attempt to mount female dogs. 9/9: When off leash at the Care Center, Maximus displays a stiff posture, growls, and moves toward the novel female dog when she solicits play before he can appropriately greet her. He listens to handler interruptions, and explores the pens. He re-approaches the greeter, and sniffs her genitals and immediately attempts to mount her. 9/11: Maximus greets another male dog with a stiff, tense posture at the gate. After a few seconds he turns and walks away. When the gate is opened, Maximus greets him briefly, tolerates a face to face sniff and then wanders the yard but remains slightly uncomfortable. 9/12: Maximus continues to only display sexually motivated behaviors.
