I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 12/03/2016 from NY 10466, owner surrender reason stated was NO TIME.

12/03/16 12:42 Basic Info: Maximus A1098310 is a 3yr old male black & tan Yorkshire Terrier mix who was given to the owner by a friend 3yrs ago and is being surrendered due to no time. Maximus was last seen by a veterinarian in 2015 and currently has no known health issues/injuries. Socialization: Maximus is shy for a few minutes with strangers. He’s lived with a 7yr old child and a cat which he was relaxed, gentle, playful and exuberant with them and the adult in the home. Maximus hasn’t bitten/scratched any person or animal. Behavior: During storms/fireworks Maximus will bark & or hide. He isn’t bothered by the following: having his food/food bowl touched/moved, being brushed or if someone unfamiliar approaches the home/family member. He struggles to get away during bath time also during having his nails trimmed. The following hasn’t been done: having his toy/objects taken away/moved, being restrained or being disturbed while sleeping/resting. For a New Family to Know: Maximus is described as friendly, affectionate, mellow with a medium-high activity level. His favorite activity is to run and play chase/tag. Maximus enjoys ball, squeaky & stuffed toys. He’s an indoor mostly dog who’s walked 2x a day where he pulls on the leash at times and eats dry Pedigree food 2x a day. When left home alone he’s placed in a crate and also uses wee wee pads. Intake Behavior: Maximus allowed all handling. He allowed to be scanned (+), collared and taken pictures of. Maximus didn’t seem to mind being picked up/held & was placed into a kennel with ease.

KNOWN HISTORY: Unaltered, Owner Surrender Previously lived with: Adults, a seven year old child, a cat Behavior toward children: Relaxed, gentle, playful, exuberant Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Behavior toward cats: Relaxed, gentle, playful, exuberant FG/RG: None reported Bite history: None reported Housetrained: Goes on wee-wee pads Energy level/descriptors: Friendly, affectionate, mellow with a medium-high activity level Other notes: Upon intake Maximus allowed all handling SAFER ASSESSMENT: Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 4. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand with a very fast head movement. If able, he muzzle punches the hand. His body is stiff. Tag: 5. Dog growls or tries to bite. Toy: Minimal interest, dog sniffs toy. Summary: Maximus appeared fearful and growled during tag, attempting to snap at the handler. He may benefit best from placement with a New Hope rescue who can further assess his behavior in a more stable environment. PLAYGROUP: 12/5: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, Maximus is solely intent on mounting females. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/3/16 During his initial medical exam Maximus appeared tense and fearful. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Maximus would benefit best from placement with a New Hope rescue group who can further assess this behavior in a stable environment) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Maximus has been observed to snap when frightened/stressed. It is recommended that Maximus be allowed a proper time to decompress to aid in acclimating him to a new environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Maximus to new and unfamiliar situations.)
