07/06/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Maxi lived previously with two adults, three children, and a teenager. She also lived with another Rottweiler, her littermate. She is noted to have been relaxed with the children and to engaged in exuberant play with the adults. With the other large dog and with small dogs she met, she was playful. She has not been exposed to cats. Her previous owner reports no food guarding or other possession issues. She may growl and bark when strangers approach her home, yard, or owner, and pulls hard on leash. She is described as playful, excitable, and affectionate, with a medium activity level. Her owner recommends a quiet home. Maxi was tense and jumpy during her initial medical examination. She was also tense during her behavior evaluation (generally ears back, mouth closed, body stiff), but she allowed all handling items without issue. She tensed during the paw squeeze so the assessor performed two flank squeezes, during which she did not respond. Maxi did not engage with the toy. Based upon the behaviors seen in the care center and those reported by her previous owner, we recommend an experienced adopter prepared to provide her with the guidance to successfully shift into a new family, and a home without children. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff, mouth closed, ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, body tense, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes stiff. Flank squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Maxi greets appropriately and wanders in the pen. She is initially tolerant of the other dog persistently greeting her, but lip curls and becomes stiff when his greeting is too long or her comfort level.
