01/09/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: It’s a good thing that the extraordinary Maximillion isn’t relying on Match.com, because there isn’t enough room to list the things he loves. Children, adults, cats, dogs. (The only thing this wonder doesn’t love, according to his previous owner, is a plastic bag floating in the wind. Who can blame him?) It is equally a good thing we didn’t find him on Match.com because a web page could never contain our love for him. His soulful eyes and constantly wagging tail started the love affair, a commitment sealed with his kiss and showing off his ability to “shake” on command (he also knows “sit,” “lie,” and of course “come.” He’s housetrained, crate trained, gorgeous on a leash, and loves nothing more than leaning in for a cuddle. Sigh. If you’ve got room in your home, you simply could not find a more wondrous being. And if you don’t have room…consider making some! This is not a match to miss.
01/09/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Maxamillion pulls hard on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Maxamillion was excitable but playful while playing tag; he did a lot of jumping up with a soft body language. He took the toy away, body language was stiff. Maxamillion was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Maxamillion has lived with children or all ages including infants. When Maxamillion plays with adults he can be somewhat rough. When Maxamillion plays with children he is gentle. Maxamillion has spent time with many other dogs and is playful around them. When Maxamillion plays with other dogs he is gentle. Maxamillion has spent time with cats and is relaxed around them. Maxamillion’s previous owner said that he has seen him growl every now and then when someone touch his food or bowl while he is eating, people taking away his toy or treat or taking away another object”. Maxamillion appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. He shows a bit of concern during the toy interaction. Maxamillion may require positive reinforcement behavior modification to address his possible guarding behavior. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, body soft, did a lot of jumping up, wagging tail, open mouth. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 3. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is stiff.
01/09/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Maxamillion greets politley but does attempt to mount females (he is currently unaltered). With more playful dogs he will engage in some running play. His owners report that around other dogs “he is playful and he is gentle.” Based on this information the behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction before placing Maxamillion into a home with another dog. When off leash with other dogs Maxamillion is sexually motivated and does not respond to correction from handlers. He may solicit play but with the intent to mount. 1/12: Maxamillion greets politely. He postures to mount but quickly becomes distracted by his surroundings. 1/13, 1/14: Maxamillion greets the other dog politely but mostly keeps to himself after the initial greeting. 1/15 update: Maxamillion greets politley and may briefly attempt to mount but ceases when the other dog walks away. He does not engage in play when solicited.
