INTAKE BEHAVIOR Date of intake 8/12/2017 During intake, Max whined with a low wagging tail, allowed all handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Date of initial 8/12/2017 During his initial medical exam, Max was active. ENERGY LEVEL: Owner describes Max as having a high level of energy which matches what we have seen at the care center. Max is a young, social, enthusiastic dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend daily walks, runs, exercise, and play.
RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_ No children under 13: Due to Max’s bite history, we recommend an adult-only home for him. _X_Place with a New Hope partner: Max was released for rescue placement only after his bite quarantine. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression – Max bit new owner on the hand and breaking skin when attempting to place a prong collar on him. It should be noted Max’s neck has what appears to be broken skin from the prongs. We recommend only force-free reward based training as more averse and forceful techniques are likely to increase fear and increase the risk of aggression. _X_Leash-biting – Max is extremely reluctant to return to his kennel, will jump up, roll, and grab leash. He successfully returned without incident moving very slowly and being spoken to softly and gently. To avoid escalation, Max should never be forced to submit to petting or handling when he gives clear signs he is uncomfortable.
