12/18/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Intact, Owner Surrender SAFER ASSESSMENT: 12/17/16 Summary: Max was not social and uncomfortable in the room; his body was tense with whale eyes while he lips licks. Max kept his distance away from the assessor when trying to coax him with his tail above his spine. Due to the behaviors observed, and out of concern for his stress level, we do not feel it is appropriate to perform a handling assessment at this time. Please review the full owner surrender profile for information on Max’s behavior in his previous home as a guideline. PLAYGROUP: According to Max’s previous owner, Max likes other dogs and is playful. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Max displays neutral body language when greeting a novel female dog. Once in the pen, the female solicits gentle play and Max begins to offer correction by yowling and backing away. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/17/16 During his medical examination, Max was vocal and uncooperative but tolerant most handling. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Due to the fear/avoidance behavior displayed in the care center, we cannot fully evaluate Max and feel that he will be best set up to succeed through placement with a New Hope partner. We recommend only positive reinforcement-based, force-free training for Max as aversive methods are likely to heighten his fear and increase aggression.) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression
