A volunteer writes:

Pomeranians are usually small but over the years  volunteering at the care center, I have encountered  some pretty large ones like Max.I heard that they are called throwback Poms…reminding us that the breed descends from much larger dogs of Spitz lineage. Rotund Max is with us for no fault of his own. His owner became ill and unable to care for a pet… Max himself might have some health issues that will need veterinary attention. Max seems to be wearing a mask, white of course because of his age and split by an anxious and panting open mouth. His eyes look tired of scanning his surroundings, searching for a master who will never come back. It is quite tough for an elderly to find himself in a shelter environment after so many years being a beloved pet. It took me a few outings to make friends with Max. Lost and unfocused at first,  he became familiar with me and saw my face with more pleasure and relief than just the opportunity to escape his kennel. He is an unusual looking dog, very well cared for , wearing a most silky and well groomed coat. He walks nicely on the leash, does his business without marking and does not pay much attention to the birds or other dogs. He comes now to sit by my side for a long petting session. He feels so soft and cushy..Max needs lots of love, attention and comforting but mostly a new home to call his own. He is a good guy who comes with great recommendations and will make a very nice, sweet and comfy buddy. Come,  meet Max at the Manhattan Care Center and let this ball of sunshine  enter and  warm up your life.

If you are local to the Tri-State, New England, and the general Northeast United States area, and you are SERIOUS about adopting or fostering one of the animals at NYC ACC, please read our MUST READ section for instructions, or email helpdogs@urgentpodr.org. Our experienced volunteers will do their best to guide you through the process.

* We highly discourage everyone from trusting strangers that send them Facebook messages, offering help, for it has ended in truly tragic events.*
