Max came into our center as an owner surrender. It is reported he is destructive during thunder storms and fireworks. Owner reports Max lived with another dog and is playful with other dogs and that he knows the cues sit, stop, and come. Max displayed a loose body and an open mouth upon intake, allowing all handling. On his relief walk, Max pulled very hard on leash. Once in the assessment room, he was wiggly and social. He lip licked and averted eyes during Look. He jumped up on the assessor, body wiggly. For Sensitivity, he had a soft body and tail was low and wagging. For Tag, he spun toward the assessor and jumped up on the first attempt, on the third attempt he spun toward the handler. He displayed whale eyes and lip licked while being positioned for Squeeze. Once positioned, he remained a bit tense but did not pull back his paw for either attempt. He had brief bouts of enthusiasm with Toy but quickly lost focus on it. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Max displays loose and wiggly body language when greeting another dog. The Behavior Team recommends Max be placed in an Experienced home with no young children. He would benefit from a slow approach and slow introduction.
