I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 06/02/2016 from NY 11412, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

06/02/16 14:13 Max is a Male German Shepard mix with no known medical conditions. Max was found wandering loose by a park and allowed finder to pet him and take him home. Max was very well behaved in the finders home. Basic information Around strangers Max was friendly and respectful. Max played gently with adults but didn’t interact with children or other animals in the time the finder had him. Max wasn’t bothered when having his food bowl touched or treats. Max is house trained and well behaved on the leash while walking. Max did chew on some papers and a plastic bag that he found on the floor once. Mas was described as friendly and sweet. Max ate beniful dry food twice a day and got walked daily. Behavior during intake During intake Max was curious of his surrounding and came up to the counselor right away. Max allowed to be pet and scanned with no problem. Max sat patiently for his picture and walked right into the kennel. Max was sweet and allowed all handling.

Max came into the shelter as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. Upon intake it was reported Max was calm and friendly, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Max came into the assessment room calm and friendly he was social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be done without issue. Max was relaxed during tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment Max was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Max appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable with an “average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed or. Food: 1. Minimal interest in food, dog smells, then turns away. Dog-Dog:Max was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Max is nervous as he greets the other dog and wanders in the pen.
