Basic Information:
Max is a 8 month old unneutered male Pit Bull that has no past or current medical issues that the owner is aware of.
Socialization:
According to the owner, Max is shy at first but then will be friendly around strangers and will play in a gentle way with adults. Max lived with 2 other dogs in the home and owner stated that he was relaxed and playful around them. Owner stated he never showed aggression towards the other dogs. Max has been around a 9 year old child before and owner stated that he was relaxed and playful with the child. He has never been around cats therefore behavior is unknown. He has never bit another animal or person while in owner’s care.
Behavior:
Max is friendly when someone touches his food, take away treats or toys, if he is pushed off the furniture, having his nails trimmed or being given a bath, having his coat brushed or when unfamiliar people would approach owners home or yard.
For a New Family to Know:
Max is described as friendly with a medium activity level. When in the home, Max likes to be in the same room as the owner. He likes to play with balls and enjoys playing chase. Max was kept mostly indoors and is very house trained. Owner stated he rarely/never has accidents in the home. When Max was left home or in the yard alone, he was well behaved. Max knows the command sit. For exercise, owner would take him on slow walks on the leash and stated that Max would pull lightly. When Max was taken off leash, he would stay close to the owner. When it comes to food, Max was fed dry food only but owner did not know the brand name.
BEHAVIOR EVALUATION :
Max came into our center along with 2 other similarly sized dogs citing landlord issues. It is reported Max has been around a 9 year old child, relaxed and playful. Behavior around cats is unknown. Owner reports Max is not bothered if anyone touches his Food, Toys, Treats. It is reported Max was kept mostly indoors and is very housetrained. Max was friendly and sociable upon entering SAFER assessment area. He held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, relaxed. Max leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, sitting down, body soft. He was distracted and focused on other stimuli during Tag game. Max did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. He playfully engaged with Toy, relinquished it easily. When off leash with other dogs, Max is social with a small female and engaged in bouncy, rough, mouthy, and tolerant play. The Behavior Team feels Max would do well with a Beginner family. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog is distracted, is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed Toy 1: 1. Dog playfully engages, will relinquish toy to you. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Max is social with a small female and engaged in bouncy, rough, mouthy, and tolerant play.
