PROFILE :
Basic info:
Max is a 5 year old, male jack Russell terrier. His former owner got him from a friend who’s dog had puppies. He was surrendered to BACC because the owner did not have the time to give Max the time and love that he deserves.
Socialization:
Max is kind of different with each stranger that he meets. He will allow some people to pet him and play with him. He plays well with his owner. He has a lot of great energy. Max loves to play fetch. He has spent time with one small child. He did well but did try to take the child’s food sometimes.
Behavior History:
Max has never bitten another animal or a person. This dog is used to being taken outside at least twice a day but if that does not happen he will urinate on a chair. Max is very scared of thunder storms and fireworks. He will try to hide and he will be very nervous. If someone who isn’t his owner touches his food bowl Max might snap at them. Max really likes getting a bath he will jump into the tub. Max is very protective of his toys and treats. He will growl and snap if something is taken from him.
For a new family to know:
Max is described as temperamental and spoiled. He is a high energy kind of guy. Max is a high energy boy but that is not a shock, he is a jack Russell after all. Max LOVES to play with tennis balls. He will play fetch for hours on end and then curl up next to you for a nap. Max likes to go to the bathroom on the grass only. He is used to dry food and will take almost any treat that is given to him.
SAFER: NEW HOPE ONLY
Max previously lived with 1 adult and has spent time with 1 small child. The owner stated max did well with the child but would try to take the child food. The owner mentioned If someone who isn’t his owner touches his food bowl Max might snap at them, he is also very protective of his toys and treats he will growl and snap if something is taken from him. it was reported by the owner Max has a high activity level and is also house trained.
During SAFER max came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was a shy and a bit social towards the assessor with a slow approach. Not all handling items were able to be conducted as Max bared his teeth and growled at the assessor on the Look item. He displayed no interest in the toy item during this portion of the assessment. When on leash for a dog interaction with another dog on leash max approaches the dog with his body soft and tail at spine. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time.
Look: 5. Dog bares teeth and growls.
Toy 1: No interest.
Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip neutral.
