Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper Dog: A1064148 Max previously lived with three adults and has been around children. The owner stated Max is respectful but does not engage in play around the children and around strangers he is shy at first but warms up to them. The owner mentioned Max has a high activity level and well behaved when home alone. It was reported by the owner Max can be destructive chewing on the insoles of shoes and chewing clothes. At intake it was reported Max was tense with firm body posture, he allowed all handling with a slow approach. During SAFER Max came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was social towards the assessor, not all handling items were able to be conducted as Max body tense up and growled at the assessor on the tag item. During this portion of the assessment on toy item he takes away the toy with his body between the item and the handler. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body tense, mouth closed. Tag: 5. Dog growls. Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip neutral.
