He is described as playful, excitable, affectionate, independent, shy and friendly. Behavior: Max is said to be aggressive to people often and he barks when left alone. He has bitten a person before. The last time he bit was 4/8/16. The bite did draw blood. He has never bitten another animal. If his food bowl was touched while eating Max would growl, continue to eat but wag his tail. If a treat or toy was taken from him he would growl, snap and bite. He isn’t bothered if he is taken off furniture, and tolerates baths. He barks and pulls away of his nails are trimmed. He isn’t bothered if his coat is brushed or if he’s held or restrained. If an unfamiliar person approached his previous home or owner he would bark and snap. For a New Family to Know: Max knows how to sit, come and go. For exercise he went on brisk walks 314 times a day. He liked to play with balls, stuffed toys and yarn. His favorite games were fetch and tug. He is crate trained but cries while in a crate. When home alone he barks and whines. When his previous owners were home he would follow them around. He hides when he hears loud noises such as storms or fireworks. He ate dry food and at night he slept on the couch. 04/15/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Max was difficult to remove from his kennel showing teeth, growling. Once he was removed from his kennel he walks calmly on leash. Max was sociable when he meets the assessor but he became uncomfortable when the behavior team tries to collar him he stands tall, and tries to look large. He wrinkles his muzzle to expose his front teeth and air snapped at the assessor. We decided to skip the handling part of the assessment for safety reasons. During the resources Max was not interested in toys. He does not approach other dog, attempts to exit. Max was surrender to us. According to his previous owner He is described as playful, excitable, affectionate, independent, shy and friendly. Around children Max is respectful but can be aggressive at times. When he’s aggressive he growls barks and nips. He lived with children ages 5-8. When he played he was gentle. Around other dogs Max is respectful but doesn’t play. He has not been around cats. If his food bowl was touched while eating Max would growl, continue to eat but wag his tail. If a treat or toy was taken from him he would growl, snap and bite”. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog. Turns body to side in relation to other dog, or exits. Helper: 1070252
