SAFE 10/25/17

Max

Hello, my name is Max. My animal id is #9390. I am a desexed male black brown dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 9 years 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 10-Oct-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- cannot afford to care for.

Max 9390 is at risk for a respiratory infection (CIRDC) and other medical conditions including a heart murmur and dental disease that will require treatment. Behaviorally, he has been social and has allowed all handling in the care center, though his previous owner reports growling over high value items. We recommend an experienced adopter prepared to work with those behaviors.

Let’s get to know each other a bit more…

A volunteer writes: Max is a shy middle aged gentleman who, for nine years, has only known family life. Imagine how he must have felt finding himself in a place like ours, new to him and full of people and dogs he never met. He is a good boy, though and complies with what ever is proposed to him, a walk with staff and volunteers, a playgroup with his peers or a stop by the medical department. Max is always ready for a walk. He could go and go and go and never seems tired. He loves the park, rolls in the grass, the leaves, and leaves the squirrels alone. Although we are told that Max goes on weewee pads, he always did with me his business in the street. He likes soft treats and stands on his hinds, leaning on my lap to ask for more. He is very low key although lively when needed. He welcomes caresses anytime. His former family said that Max would is friendly to strangers and good with children, and even plays like a kid. Max has right now a little cold that we are treating. He will need you very soon so come and see him at the Manhattan Care Center and make him yours.

My medical notes are…

Your newly adopted pet has been diagnosed with a heart murmur and the staff veterinarians are issuing a permanent waiver from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY.
