04/08/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/08/16 12:31 Mavis A1069682 is a young female gray & white American Staffordshire Terrier mix who was found tied up on a street corner near the Bronx Zoo. The finder isn’t able/willing to keep her. Mavis was found with a muzzle; the finder just untied her and walked her to their car where she hopped in on her own. During intake it was noticed Mavis has a mammary tumor along with a mass on her right underarm area. She was nervous and had a low body posture. At times she growled especially when a male would approach. Mavis seemed to be more comfortable with females and would sit next to/lean on them perhaps for comfort. Mavis didn’t seem too comfortable with being touched on the top of her head (due to this reason we were unable to collar her). Mavis allowed to be scanned (-) & taken pictures of including positioning her (she also sat nicely when asked). We had to lift her into the kennel as she resisted going into it on her own.

04/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mavis came in as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. She was found tied to a gate with a muzzle on, Finder untied her and she walked easily and hopped in the car on her own. Mavis was growling, barking, and trying to bite during her initial medical exam. She was difficult to take out of her kennel for her relief walk, but once outside she was more relaxed. Once comfortable, Mavis allowed handler to collar, leash, and allowed all handling. Mavis whined continually in the SAFER assessment room, appearing anxious, even while being petted. She would not allow assessor to approach, curled and raised lip, showing teeth, low growl. Due to this behavior the remaining tactile portions of the assessment were skipped. Mavis growled and barked when assess-a-hand approached Toy. She approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, not stiff, lip lick. Mavis must be placed with a New Hope Partner. Mavis may benefit initially from a calm, quiet, structured environment. She appears to be more comfortable approaching at her own pace, rather than being approached directly, especially towards her face/head where she immediately becomes stiff and bares teeth. It should be noted once comfortable with handler Mavis jumped up onto lap affectionately, licking hands and face of handler, though still continuously whining. Toy 1: 4. Dog raises lip, growls, barks Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip lick
