Mashed Potato
Hello, my name is Mashed Potato. My animal id is #18944. I am a male brindle dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 22-Jan-2018.
Mashed Potato is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex, which is contagious to other dogs. Behaviorally, we have no concerns for Mashed Potato, whom we believe would be suitable for most homes.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
A volunteer writes: Without meaning to, I saved the best for last on my shift yesterday, and promptly fell head over heels in love with Mashed Potato. He suggested I call him Spud since Mashed Potato is so awkward, but I would call him anything as long as he was by my side. He’s gorgeous, his brindle coat lush and full, he’s good on leash, seems housetrained, and purrs when I pet him. He’s a total cuddle boy, happy leaning into me as we sit on a park bench. Ignoring other dogs we pass on our walk, he’s been great in playgroup, enjoying play with females (he’s not been with males as of this writing) and matching his play style to his partners. Of course he does! Joining me on the park bench, we cuddle, he nudges me with his nose to keep petting him, and is a total love bug. His soft, gentle and sweet personality is so perfect I could have cuddled with him all day. You, lucky adopter, get that chance, so run, don’t walk, to meet him today.
My medical notes are…
Weight: 68.8 lbs

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Mashed Potato so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.
IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS:: Mashed Potato consistently displays highly social behavior with his human caretakers in the shelter environment. He maintains a loose wiggly body throughout interactions and solicits attention from handlers.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: AVERAGE (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
