01/20/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
01/20/17 13:49 During intake Mary was friendly and was wagging her tail. She was very alert. When another dog came into the admissions room Mary was being petted by the counselor on the sides of her face and Mary gave a low growl, but kept a loose body. When Bell’s came in she did growl and snap at the ACO when the ACO attempted to pat her on the head. Mary has skin irritations on her body. Mary, afterwards, was responding to the counselor and would lower her head and wag her tail when being petted. Seems nervous- Mary was found on the street with a thunder shirt on. Mary was whining the whole time and seemed like she wanted to play with the dog. Mary spent the night in the home of the person who found her. She was there with a 8year old boy, and reportedly allowed him to pet and play with her. She was friendly in the home and was jumping on people’s laps.
01/23/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Mary comes right away to her door when she is called upon. “Present and ready to go!!!” Mary is leashed in no time and off we go around the block.. She is a great walker, does her business on the way and ignores the few pigeons encountered. She is civil to her peers neared during our stroll. Mary is really cute all dressed in chocolate and white, healthy looking and very Boston Terrier like although she would be quite on the large side of the breed. She can sit on command, comes when called and accepts caresses. There is a hint of shyness in her manners but it might all be due to her new circumstances. She needs a little bit of time to feel more comfortable. Playgroups with her own kind should help her. Mary is a cute little gal, gentle, a little timid, friendly and who for sure will please the amateurs of the breed. Come and meet her at the Manhattan Care Center. She so would love a home and a master to love.
01/23/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Limited 1/20/17 Unaltered Female, Stray (Finder had her for one night) Previously lived with: Spent the night in a home with adults and a child (8 years old) Behavior toward children: Allowed the child in the home to pet and play with her. Other notes: During intake Mary snapped at the ACO when he attempted to pat her on the head. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 1/22/17 Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place his body between you and the toy. Summary: Mary displayed no behavioral concerns on her assessment. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Hyper-motivated: These dogs come on too strong and have coarse social skills. They have had a poor history of social experience with other dogs and were most likely deprived of off- leash contact. They are overly excited when meeting new dogs, often up in the other dog’s face and not able to read subtle signals to back off, which can quickly lead to a scuffle. PLAYGROUP: Mary displays assertive behavior with both male and female dogs and appears to have a play style rooted in prey drive. Mary should meet playful, highly tolerant dogs on a one on one basis, at a slow pace to ensure compatability. Mary arrived as a stray, so it is not known how her behavior in the care center will translate into a home setting with other dogs. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 1/21/17 During her initial medical exam, Mary was tense. ENERGY LEVEL:
