Our Mary is hardly contrary (for those that remember the old children’s nursery rhyme), but rather our Mary is sweet, affectionate and friendly. She’s stunningly gorgeous in her gray and white coat, well groomed and a good weight. Likely housetrained she takes care of her business as soon we’re out the door and off we go to the park. Mary has a path in mind as we walk, and every once in a while will stop if she prefers to go in a direction other than the one I’m going in. She’s adorable! We chat about it for 2 seconds and then off we go again in my chosen direction. Posing for pictures perfectly, and giving me a head tilt when I make kissy sounds at her, she sits when asked and takes treat gently. Off leash in a back pen she’s thrilled to meet another volunteer who stops by to say hello, is happy to greet other dogs and gives me some kisses and hugs. She comes when I call her, wagging her tail to put her paws in my lap for some loving. Low key and gentle with soft energy, Mary is an absolute delight hoping to find her bestie today. Be sure to meet her when you visit.

BEHAVIOR AVERAGE 3/10/15:
Mary walks calmly on leash. She was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body, but trying to stay close. Mary was shy during handling, but had soft body language. She engages in play, body is loose and wiggly, mouth open. She did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. She was not interested in toys or rawhide. Mary was relaxed when approaching a friendly dog, but was not playful.

Mary was shy during the first items of the assessment but she became very playful with the assessor during the tag interaction. Mary just needs a little bit of time to get comfortable with the handler. She did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home.
Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, shy body language , mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick.
Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw.
Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw.
Food 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against her cheek.
Toy 1. No interest.
Rawhide 1. No interest.
Dog – dog 1. Dog approaches the helper, soft body, tail neutral, but not playful.
