LVT Intake Exam : Microchip Scan: negative, placed 981020023794061  Evidence of Cruelty: no  Observed Behavior: allows handling, very fixated on other animals in intake, jumpy but does not aggress  Sex: intact male  Estimated Age: appx 5-6y  Subjective: old tail fractures, coat has dry grey paint splashed on it, damage to pinnae as if poorly cropped (parts missing, not completely cut across), middling aged animal  Eyes: clear  Ears: clean  Oral Exam: mild staining  Heart: WNL  Lungs: WNL  Abdomen: WNL  Musculoskeletal: WNL BCS 5/9  Mentation: BARH  Preliminary Assessment: seemingly healthy  Plan: DVM intake

A Little Bit About Me…

A volunteer writes: Serious as a Beaver. So quiet in his kennel but ready when you are. This is Marlin who so knows that my pocket is full of treats. He hovers around me, then sits at once with an anxious look on his face when he sees my hand holding a dry liver nugget. He can be eager taking treats but corrects nicely after “counseling”. Marlin needs a little more meat around the bones and he will be one handsome and attractive bachelor. He is quite obedient, food motivated and likely as a result, very trainable. Marlin is a good walker, likely house trained(very) and polite with other dogs neared. He meets for now only gals in playgroups with his peers where he has been polite, playful and a gentleman. Marlin did not play yet with me but he clearly enjoyed caresses and butt scratches. At some point(not caught on camera), he forgot all about his solemness and rolled on his side for belly rubs. I bet that Marlin will do just that once he is home with you, well fed, safe and mostly loved. Come and meet him soon at the Manhattan Care Center.

Date of assessment:       15-Apr-2018
Look:     1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. Allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity:          1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, eyes are averted, and tail is in neutral position with a relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag:        2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends (may need coaxing to approach). Dog is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor.

Toy:       1. Minimal interest in toy, dog may smell or lick, then turns away.
Summary:           Marlin was interested in sniffing around the room. After a few minutes, he approached the assessor with a soft body and displayed social behavior. He then went back to sniffing around the room, intermittently being social towards the assessor. He allowed all handling and displayed no concerning behaviors.
Summary (1):     4/14: When introduced off leash to a female dog, Marlin greets politely and engages in soft bouncy play when solicited.
Summary (2):     4/15: Marlin engages in soft play.

Summary:           Marlin allowed handling but would not go into the kennel.

Summary:           Marlin was social and allowed handling.
ENERGY LEVEL:  We have no history on Marlin so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. At the care center, he displays a medium level of activity.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:     AVERAGE (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
