A volunteer writes: Everything about Mark is cool. In a world where everyone is trying to stand apart, Mark takes unique to a whole new level! His tail is reminiscent of a fox, his ears stand up at command like a shepherd, and his face is that of a loveable smushy pitbull. It’s clear his former family took good care of him: his coat is beautiful, he’s a healthy weight and his demeanor is awesome. In his former home, he lived with a child and another dog whom he loved to cuddle with! Mark walks calmly on the leash, seems housetrained and reportedly loves to play with balls! With me, he’s been rather chill, even when other dogs bark at him or amongst loud traffic or passing strangers. When I sat down with him to give him some love, his playful side came out a bit! He craves a good butt rub and will give some kisses in return. The only thing that could make Mark hipper would be having you by his side. Ask to meet him today!

DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT:
Summary
PLAYGROUP:
According to Mark’s previous owner, around the other resident dog he was described as playful and relaxed. The previous owner stated the two dogs would play and sleep together. He is slightly sexually motivated with female dogs and calmly status seeks with male dogs. He is able to respond well to handler interruptions and can explore the pen. The Behavior Department believes that it would be in Mark’s best interested to be the only dog in the home, however a dog-dog interaction can be conducted with a potential adopter’s dog to assess compatibility.
1/13: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Mark greets a novel female dog displaying neutral body language. He is slightly sexually motived, persistently licking the female’s genital area, but is able to explore the pen. As the session continues, he mounts the female dog and is slow to respond to handler interruptions.
1/14: Mark displays neutral body language when greeting a neutered male dog. When the male approaches to greet him, Mark becomes slightly stiff and chooses to walk away. He explores the pen for the remainder of the session, keeping to himself.
1/21: With an intact male dog, Mark displays slightly stiff body language when the other male approaches him. He displays assertive posturing, standing tall and attempting to mount. He responds well to handler interruptions and explores the pen.
