DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: 4/10: When introduced off leash to dogs in the care center Marco is fearful in the yard and keeps only to himself. He turns his head away when approached. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 4/7/17 During his initial medical exam, Marco was fractious and snapped. ENERGY LEVEL: In the care center, Marco displays a low level of activity. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced adopter, adult-only home (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _X_No children (under 13): Due to how uncomfortable Marco is currently with touch and novel stimuli, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Marco is very fearful in the care center environment and of new handlers. It is important to always go slow and give Marco the option to walk away from any social interaction. Marco should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Marco’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Marco would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings. __Strength/leash pulling _X_Kennel presence: Marco growls when approached in his kennel.
