KNOWN HISTORY: Unknown Unaltered, Seized Previously lived with: Nine other dogs. Behavior toward dogs: Appeared to get along with the other dogs in the home. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 12/8/2016 Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is trembling, his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog accepts the touch, tense, body low, mouth closed Tag: 2. Dog is fearful but unresponsive when touched, does not follow at end of leash Squeeze 1: 3. Dog moves his legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw Flank squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Toy 1: No interest. Summary: Manny was appeared uncomfortable walking on leash and though he tolerated touch he does not appear to enjoy it and remained tense throughout. Manny may benefit from an adult only home who will allow Manny to interact and acclimate at his own pace. PLAYGROUP: 12/3: When off leash with other dogs Manny is initially fearful but begins to warm up around his housemates and will wag and sniff when approached. He will persistently mount one of the females from his home despite handler intervention. 12/5: Manny is polite and social when greeting other dogs. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/3/16 During his initial medical exam Manny appeared nervous but allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (Suitable for an adopter with a previous amount of dog experience) _X_No children (under 13) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Manny has been observed to display fearful behavior during his stay at our care centers; at times will avoid interaction and shy away from direct-touch. Manny easily startles and is made uncomfortable by loud noises and sudden movement and will display proper warning signals as well as increase distance from anything that may present a threat. We cannot be certain if any other behavior is suppressed as a result of his environment. A period of decompression is advised before introduction or exposure to new and unfamiliar situations. Force-free, reward based training is advised.)
