A volunteer writes: Winter already getting you down? Think warm thoughts of sun and beach…think Malibu!! Our Malibu is a long legged, elegant boy wrapped in a stunning brindle and white coat. His tail never stops wagging as his soft green eyes meet mine. Easily leashed, he pulls until he finds the perfect place to go potty. Once business is done, he walks nicely. He’s quiet and thoughtful, in touch with and respectful of his person, poses for photos like a pro, not minding being tethered. Off leash, toys and a ball briefly get his attention, watching the birds fly outside our pen is an activity, cookies? don’t mind if I do, thank you, and then it’s cuddle time. Laying his head against my chest, reaching up for a kiss, draping his paw over my arm, Malibu is soft and affectionate. His coat is so soft and clean I love running my hands over it as I pet him. Sweet, friendly and gentle, Malibu is ready to warm your heart and soul forever.

This behavior is very distressing for the target dogs and should not be allowed to happen. PLAYGROUP: Malibu has shown a concerning level of arousal around other dogs during his stay at the care center. With prolonged greeting he begins to snap at other dogs and is not easily deescalated. During his initial interaction he was able to slow down with handler interruption, but with each interaction afterward he has not. 12/28/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Malibu has shown a concerning level of arousal around other dogs during his stay at the care center. With prolonged greeting he begins to snap at other dogs and is not easily deescalated. During his initial interaction he was able to slow down with handler interruption, but with each interaction afterward he has not. At this time the behavior department recommends not placing Malibu into a home with other dogs until his behaviors can be followed up on. 12/28: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Malibu rushes in to the pen, mouthing at the female greeter dog, and attempts to mount once able to reach her. He ignores correction when it is offered by the greeter dog. He does begin to slow down with handler interruption. He then roams and sniffs around the pen. 12/31: When waiting to be introduced off-leash, Malibu becomes aroused and begins to growl and snap at dogs through a gate. He is not introduced at this time. 1/3: Immediately upon entering the pen Malibu runs toward the helper dog and begins mouthing at her face. She attempts to run away at which point Malibu’s arousal level increases; he stiffens and begins to snap. He does not stop with handler interruption, only when his leash is grabbed. As he is being led out of the pen he continues barking and snapping toward the helper dog.
