He was crate trained as a puppy but doesnt need it now. He knows the cues sit, stay, lay down, give me kiss and give me five. He was walked 2 times daily and pulls on leash. Off leash he wanders but comes when called. Behavior during intake: Maino jumped up and gave long hugs. He gave kisses and allowed me to collar him. He sat for treats and allowed me to pet him. ENERGY LEVEL:
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult-only home _X_No children (under 13): Due to Maino’s bite history and unclear trigger, as well as the resource guarding reported by the owner and seen in the care center, we recommend an adult-only home Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Maino growled as a warning during the bite incident, and also growled as a warning during his medical examination (he did not escalate here), but he has established that he will escalate to a bite in certain situations _X_Resource guarding: Maino tensed over the toy during the SAFER assessment, and also is reported to growl over his food bowl at home. We recommend that Maino be left alone when he is eating or engaged with an item, and that he be taught “drop” and other trade up games. No one should ever take anything directly from Maino’s mouth, and he should always be rewarded for dropping an item so he learns to relinquish readily.
