She has a high activity level. The two things her previous owners liked most about her were; she’s friendly and affectionate. When her previous owners were home Maia would follow them around. She liked playing with balls and chew toys. She played fetch and tug. At night she slept in her crate. She ate dry Natures choice. She is house-trained and rarely had accidents. She is well behaved when left alone indoors. She is crate trained and can be in her crate for 10 hours or more. She knows how to sit, roll over, give paw, play dead and go down. On leash she pulls lightly and off leash she wanders but comes when called. Behavior during intake: Lena allowed me to pick her up and pet her. She was very weak and didn’t move at all during intake.
04/10/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Being pretty isn’t everything but it certainly never hurts. Gorgeous Maia, “the supermodel,” as I call her, has been blessed with terrific looks for all of her two years. And it shows. Like a would-be prom queen Maia is friendly and outgoing, care-free and exuberant, confident and bold. As I dangle a treat in front of her asking her to sit she briefly barks. She doesn’t want to barter, she would like her treat now, please! Later as I fumble in my bag for yet another scarf that will perfectly suit her, she barks again. She wants to play, please! Not wait around. Still, it’s impossible to even find her petulant when she snuggles up against you and throws her legs across your lap. Her fur is soft and lush and she loves nothing more than your fingers running through it. She looks up and gives you a sweet, thankful smile. Or is it a naughty one? It doesn’t matter. You eat it up all the same. Maia was surrendered to our care and previously lived with young children with whom she was playful and gentle. I can so imagine her loving similar company once again. Child-like and yes, a bit naughty, herself, she would love nothing more than to be once again a part of that pack. After all, a beauty queen is nothing without her admirers and indeed Maia has many. She is only missing that which is a bit harder to come by. Someone to love her inside and out. And also forever. Maia is waiting in adoptions at Manhattan’s ACC.
